I have a 1979 F150. There is a 16 gauge fusible link that has the parking lights and horn on it. It was burned up. I don’t know if it is supposed to have one there. How many fusible links were supposed to be on these trucks.
well, you have one in the ignition circuit and one between the alternator and the voltage regulator... first I have heard of one in the lighting circuit. So at least 3?
The horn relay does use one, so that's legit. A Yellow wire (but I seem to remember a green color associated with it too?) with a fusible link right there at the starter relay's battery side terminal. Horn relay is nearby on the inner fender apron. Same as your layout?
My truck does not have the extra fusible links, but in the diagrams they show quite a few extras on some trucks. If you have overhead cab clearance lights, that might be the other one. Or are you saying it's tied in to the horn relay link?
I've seen some 2wd Camper Specials with all sorts of added wiring over there. Mine is much more basic so I don't have anything to compare it to under my hood.
Hopefully it was just a momentary short, but whatever caused the meltdown should be tracked down obviously.
Most of the grounds were cut....
They used romex wire....
All kinds of extra lights....
Boy, that is a huge mess you inherited there upon what they did to wiring on a Ford Truck - are you sure the previous owner wasn't living in it ?
Since romex wire was used, I'd be looking for some 110v AC inverter of sorts on that truck that you might find....
With all that redneck custom wiring described here, I wouldn't be surprised if every circuit had a fusable link, it was certainly needed evidently....
Best of luck rewiring the needed circuits on this truck - and I would seek out a wiring diagram for guidance upon this task.
