When I got new to me X #4, I made sure the dealer had the lock code. They pulled it and the lock would not open. I asked if it would even light up at all. He said no. Long story short, someone replaced the driver's door (with one marked Lemon) so now the scenario is that I have a lock not recognized by the ECU and visa versa-I think. Is there a way to re-marry the two or is this a final divorce??
I don't believe they are married. When I bought a new door keypad from the dealer, cause the numbers were faded, I just installed it and plugged it in, and all is good. If it's not lighting up, it's probably not receiving power. You'll probably have to check the through wiring integrity in the body to door boot.
The part number for my 2001 with older electrical platform is the same for your 2004 with newer electrical platform.
Thanks! Since the dealer didn't know how to paint a door I imagine electrical was beyond then as well. Now if I can get the code from the dealer. They said they pulled it but after asking 4 times I wonder.
I keep meaning to add to my signature. I have a 03 currently
I got my code from behind the radio. But first, having seen a post mentioning that it could be gotten with FORScan, I decided to give it a try. The result was that after looking all over the options in FORScan, I could not find how to get it done. And I was not new to FORScan, having used it for other diagnostics.
Could you please add some information on the procedure? Just curious on how I may have missed it. Thanks.
I haven't used FORScan in a while, but you do need the unlocked version (Extended License), which gives you the ability to pull the door code, and a few other features. Not all years had a sticker buried in the dash with the door code.
Before you waste too much time there is a simple test to see if the keypad is even working.
press both of the last 2 buttons together as one, 7-8, 9-0, and the doors should all lock, if they dont, your keypad isnt even working, and you can enter the correct code a million times and get nothing.
I never understood the advantage of the keypad unless you locked your keys inside. Otherwise it's not really all that convenient. A key or key fob is easier. I've only used it once and that was just to see if it worked. I didn't know about the two button punch that locks all the doors. Again the key fob or the lock button on the arm rest does the same thing.
The point is so you can lock the truck while running, and unlock it as well, without the keys, so you can leave the A/C running when needed, so you cannot be locked out, and for fleet vehicles, such as law enforcement, they can leave the keys, but lock the doors in case a perp or k9 is inside needing the A/C left on while locked, it turned into a very useful thing hence it is still available to this day.
I guess in those cases it may be useful. If I were a LEO and had a K9, I would use it but not for a perp. Interestingly the Police Interceptor I had did not have a keypad.
I don't think I've seen keypads on any other brand.
It was less common on the older crown vics(2V V8s), but more prevalent on those that were 05+(3V +newer electronics) and the Trucks and SUVs of Ford that they used, lately almost every ford police vehicle ive seen has had them.

I leave my keys in mine a lot, on purpose. The keypad is the hero here. The less crap I carry at times, the better. Yes I have a kill switch so no, nobody will drive it away if they break a window.
Also, I leave it running in the super cold temps, lock the doors, go shop or whatever and nice warm truck when I return. Not for a long time mind, just running in type of thing.
Of course, if you live in an area where they are stealing cats and such....you might not want to leave your keys. Keys are easier at times but I weigh said convenience.
Thanks for reminding me. I have the feeling we have a power issue. I have just gotten to it on my to do list. I know they blow a fuse sometimes. The way they did everything else on this door, the probably didn't bother to hook it up.
