1984 F-150. While sitting still the battery charges just fine. However, while driving the battery discharges. I've replaced everything, battery, cables, solinoid, alternator, and everything else that any one had an oppinion of except the guy who suggested I change if from a Ford to a Chevy. Some one please help while I still have part of my sanity! Thanks!
This is weird stuff! Okay it does fine just sitting huh? What is your voltage when you are sitting and what is it when you drive? Check it with your engine running then check it after you turn all your accessories on. Does it drop voltage when you rev the engine or does this just happen when you actually move the rig? Does it go dead when it sits without running (is there a draw on it)? Just fishing for more info here, will definitely be interesting to hear what you find.
There is a wiring connection between the voltage regulator and the alternator hidden under the black tape wrap that corrodes and doesn't allow the battery to charge.
I've repaired a couple of these.
Try unwrapping the tape and finding this connection for inspection.
Good luck!
