The door sticker on my 94 F150 says my tranny is "M" im asuming this means I have the mazda 5 speed. anyways I was wondering if sombody could explain how to drain and refill the oil in it, and what kind of oil should be used.
Hey opporll, if you look at the driver's side of the gear box, you will notice 2 plugs-1 near the top and another at the bottom, they may even be gold toned. Bottom is the drain plug, top is the fill. I believe the book calls for Mercon or some type of Dexron auto trans fluid. Once you get the fluid, fill until it just trickles out of the upper (fill) plug and you should be good to go. I also know that the plug threads are very fine, be careful replacing them.

Yes. Most manual trannies made since the late 70's-early 80's use ATF. I run Amsoil synthetic in mine. It's pricey, but not as pricey as a new M5OD; I've been there. It shifts a ton better with the synthetic in it.
If it makes you feel any better, I just filled my Ford/Mazda 91 Probes' MTX with Mercon Auto tranny fluid. That's what the book told me to do. The car runs and shifts smooth as a babies buttocks. My 87 Stang BorgWarner MTX used 90 weight gear oil. That was the last car I owned that needed gear oil in the tranny.
