99 Explorer Door Lock System Questions

My '99 Explorer has an irritating problem, one that seems to be growing worse. The door locks open electrically *when the key is inserted*, and presumably, turned. However, it only works with the driver's side door. I can't get the passenger side to unlock at all with the key.

The rear lock works fine for locking and unlocking, but does not seem to tie into the electrical unlock. When I use the rear lock rocker switch, all the doors *except* the driver's door will unlock.

Even when unlocking the driver's door, the whole procedure is really balky, requiring some jiggling and fidgeting around with the key before it finally deigns to electrically click open. The inside lights come a full two or three seconds before the unlock engages and pops the door buttons up.

Also, when I open the rear gate, the latch mechanism seems to stick in the open position, meaning that the gate requires a couple of 'thuds' upon closing before it releases and latches.

Ideas on how to address these issues? Also, since the truck has the key-based electrically activated unlock system, does that mean than I can install a remote lock control?

Any ideas or comments greatly appreciated.
