FWIW, A few years back my water temp gauge would peg from time to time and then return to normal.

I replaced the sending unit and the connector with parts from NAPA. The old ones had corroded terminals.





The problem was still there from time to time.

Then, one day I figured I'd check the coil wire connector, I found some corrosion there. After cleaning that, the water temp gauge has worked great.

I have since replaced the terminals at the coil connector.



Matthew told me I should get these to replace with OEM terminals.



I'm not electrical, so I have no idea why the coil wire would affect the water temp gauge.
