Here's a real Ranchero awaiting restoration that belongs to my friend Morry (rip) that we saw on one of our PA Truckstock excursions. This one was converted to 4 wheel drive. Not a great pic as I couldn't get back far enough because of other classic Ford's in the way. But you'll see an old picture of what it looked like when it was running.
I did a little reading. Basically seven generations of Ranchero over 23 model years. It only sold about a half million units the entire run according to Wikpediia. It's confusing to follow and would take some research to understand all the base models from year to year. Like the El Camino. it is really was basically a convertible station wagon some years. Some of the very early Rancheros had a higher payload capacity than an F100 which I found surprising. The Ranchero was even based off the LTD II platform a few years.
From Wikipedia!
The 1966 Ranchero used Falcon front sheet metal, trim, and interior accents on a modified station wagon platform although Rancheros made late in the '66 model year had the same front clip as the Fairlane.[14]

I would need a flowchart to track all the major appearance changes. The early ones had the late 50s styling but I think the 64-65 looks good. It sorta looks like a cross between a Falcon and a Chevy II. Interesting yard find in any event.
Very cool, especially that it’s been stripped, because someone somewhere is restoring one.
There’s a 70s Caddy converted to an open hearse for sale near me. It’s basically the same type of vehicle, only I suspect no one wants it because of what it was used for.

Most everyone here works on the F-100
Too bad the wheels are gone. I need a 13" 4 lug wheel for a spare for my 62 ranchero. The one in the original picture is a homemade one from a station wagon. It has the wagon rear window. The ranchero back glass was mostly flat and inset into the top and side metal.
