Just curious...you guys with flatheads..... I change my oil once a year and filter...... how about you guys?...... keeping in mind I probably don't even put a 1000 miles on it a year..... every time I change the filters they never seem as dirty as the oil.....was wondering your thoughts on maybe every other oil change?....... thoughts?.....
Depends... My engine is rebuilt so it has no sludge. With low mileage these days, I went almost 2 years on the oil and almost 4 years / 2500 miles on the filter. Another caveat, I always drive it enough for the engine to get really hot, so it's not making any new sludge.
Ok got ya....thanks for the reply...... I just changed mine today......oil and filter.........the oil was dirty but not thick or sludge......filter was actually pretty clean...... I know it's actually been in there a little over a year....last year I did no cruises or shows do to....you guessed it covid!......that's why the question about the oil filter....
I change the oil and filter on my Yblocks every year at inspection time, regardless of the number of miles I put on.
A buddy of mine says changing the oil with out putting a new filter on is like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear.
There's a big difference between a full-flow filter like on a Y-block, and a bypass filter on a flathead. Very little oil left in the canister to contaminate the new oil.
