I have a 2004 f150 with tow package,it has 3.55 gears and i pull a 7000 lb trailer, doesn’t have much power and gets 4 to 5 miles per gal, question, would it help to install 3.73 gears, does not get but about 14 mpg solo. Thanks
What's your combined weight? Towing 7k with these trucks requires the truck to be nearly empty of people and cargo. The trucks rated for 11,700lbs combined. You didn't mention drivetrain specs or cab so I am assuming this is a 5.4 supercrew.
It is just a 150 with 3:55 gears and towing pkg, with just me in the truck, the trailer is a 26ft and and 6300 lb with not much more in it ,that is why I said 7000 lb. doesn’t have a lot of power just driving down the road ,just thought it might do better with different gears and it is a crew cab.
Depending on driving habits, 14 MPGS is low as it is. When is the last time coils and plugs have been dealt with? Being a 3V Triton, I wouldn’t be shocked to hear they have been neglected as far as change out interval.
Changing to 3.73s won’t help. That’s what...a 2% bump in rpms? Not exactly adding a supercharger here. Check out actual engine health first. A scanner with mode 6 will very likely show misfires out the wazoo.
Just had all plugs and one coil changed don’t have but 139k on truck, had it since new ,second time plugs have been changed never has gotten good mpg.just started pulling camper with it,I have a 95 Ford 7.3 with 439k on it,guess I will just keep on using it. Thanks

So you are towing more then the truck is rated for its not going to be fast. Figure out the weight of your truck on a scale. Most of these trucks were 5800lbs in 5.4 4x4 SuperCrew. That means max trailer weight was 5900lbs.
