My 1949 F2 has been sitting idle for a while and when I started it up I found that the clutch will not release. The bearing slides as it should but the clutch remains engaged when I push in the clutch peddle. Are there any suggestions to free this up short of pulling the transmission? I've tried judiciously hitting the bell housing with a rubber mallet. Is there something I can do to prevent this in the future once I get it working? Thanks!
I have found that to happen to several of my vehicles in the past. Can you start it in gear ? Then run around the yard or a parking lot pushing your clutch pedal in, sometimes it will release then. Good luck.
The disc is likely rusted to the flywheel or the PP. It sounds crazy, but squirt some water in there (thru the inspection port on the clutch cover), let it sit a while, then rock the truck in gear with the clutch pushed in. Once it breaks free, with the engine idling slip the clutch enough to dry it out and get the rust knocked off. Then drive it to get it good and hot.
It does sound like a disc corroded to the flywheel or PP. I've seen it a few times. You know the answer to your last question. Exercise the truck a little now and then. Especially if it is sitting outdoors.
