I am seeing some different information on the correct type of coolant on my 01 excursion with the v10. I am getting ready to do headgaskets on it and the information I am looking up shows green coolant for it but some of the other information on here recommends zerex g05. I have orangeish stuff in there now. Going to do a full flush/refill and want to get the right stuff.
Make sure you do NOT mix the DEX and non-DEX coolants!
The Ford orange coolant is a non-DEX variant. The current Ford equivalent is yellow and is backwards compatible. Mixing them should not be an issue.
To clear this up Ford Orange is Dex-Cool and Dex-Cool can be used just fine. The specs are on the bottles. However Ford didn't use Orange until 2011 so this doesn't apply to the OP. Ford has also discontinued selling Orange as they didn't renew the license from GM in 2018. The switch to Yellow coolant has been made and is backwards compatible.

For 2001 conventional green was used, ESE-M97B44-A. If a full and complete flush is performed you can move to Gold coolant. It must be a through flush with Motorcraft VC-8.
