Well new issue. We have now gone through 3 starters. My grandson says the bendex stays engaged. Called the mechanic says it's more than likely the ignition switch. My question is can this of messed up the solenoid on the fender as well? Really don't want to tow the truck in if we can get it fixed ourselves. We will probably need another new starter as well?
thise solenoids are pretty tough. It takes a key voltage to trigger it and send power to the starter. The little white wire is the trigger wire from the ignition.
the starter can be rebuilt. I wouldn’t buy a rebuilt starter unless I knew who rebuilt it. Usually they need brushes and bearings. Unless the armature is bad.

Thanks first 2 were rebuilt 3rd was brand new they had it shipped in.
The starter starts right up but stays engaged. Guess it may have to end up at the mechanic. The ignition switch is easy enough to change guess we could replace that first.

do the diagnostic yourself. A starting circuit isn’t that complicated
Remove the key hot wire going to the solenoid. It should be a white wire on the small post next to the bigger posts. If it’s stuck you’ll hear it click when the wire is removed. If it doesn’t click…..your solenoid may be stuck. Smack it with a screwdriver handle.
check that wire for power. It should only have power when the key is turned to the start position. If it has power at all times it’s the switch. If it doesn’t a e constant power and only has power when the key is turned to the start position it’s the solenoid.
I would replace the solenoid after all the issues first as it’s easily accessible and cheap.
