4x4 front u joints

I greased me zerk on my new to me 2017 6.7. it didn't dawn on me till now that I had to clear old grease off to be able to get to the zerk. It looked like much of it had old grease so I'm betting the dust cover has a hole in it. Is that difficult to r&r?

I'm going thru this right now, my pass. side u-joint is bad & I was quoted $ 423 for r&r. Looking at some videos it looks like the u-joint would not be a bad job but the hub seal needs a special seal driver to get it installed correctly so I'm undecided if I will buy the seal driver & do it myself or let the shop do it.

Grease it every oil change, good chance it will last years.
after all it not a safety hazard and it will give you plenty of warning and time to fix if it does eventually fail.

If you keep the hubs in auto it does not rotate when driving. It will slowly get noisy and start to rattle as it wears or if it starts getting tight you will feel it in the steering wheel. Again not a safety hazard and will not let you set.

But if you like tearing apart a new truck it’s your money and truck so feel free I will not stop you

Mine isn't exactly new (2017 with 80k) but sounds like I'll watch it. I need to look at it again as it didn't dawn on me when I greased.

Appreciate it!

It’s amazing how fast they age, I like to think of my truck as new - ordered fall of 17- And I guess it is 4 years old already. Where did the time go?

IKR! Mine is new to me though as I just bought it a month ago. I got suckered into it by a dealer offer to buy my f150 and then some. I never looked at diesels before so I wasn't sure about normal prices. Looking back, they got me especially after seeing what they are selling mine for today.
