Has anyone tried the cam phaser lockout with programming ECU? My '08 F250 has issue with intermittent rough idle and engine noise after about 20 minutes driving. I doesn't have issue when VCT solenoids are disconnected. I see this on ebay and I wonder if there is any harm if I send my ECU to have it programmed to lockout the VCT.. Just so you can have even less power then the 2v 5.4? Just fix the actual issue with the correct parts and drive on. A timing job on a 3v isn't bad just don't skimp on parts, the only proven aftermarket part you should be using is the HV oil pump.
I am new to this world and just want to ask for opinions since a lot of people are having their engine tuned with after market tuner. From what I've researched, it looks like Ford has major design flaw in Triton V3 engine. It sounds like tech's dealers are aware of this and they just want to replace the engine when having issues with VCT rather than fixing it.

A lot of shops feel it's risky to open them up and just replace select parts, and I don't necessarily blame them. Too many unknowns like if chain guide particles are clogging oil passageways or something else. Some feel it's safer just to drop in an entirely new engine with warranty.
I'm not saying I necessarily support this thinking, but I understand it.
One user here tried cam phaser lockout w Livernois with lackluster results - a search would get you there.
