I received my PHP Hydra from Riff Raff on Friday and put it in yesterday. Wow nice difference as far as power and get up and go! With that being said the 40 and 65 HP tunes work great I think the 40HP DD will be my go to tune most of the time. I do enjoy the 65HP performance tune but probably not needed daily.
My idle is smoother which I wasn't expecting which is nice. EGT's are cooler and seems to run a little less boost when just cruising down the highway.
First issue , The 80HP tune on the other hand falls on its face and then pulls very hard. My initial thoughts are Fuel as in not enough I am completely stock other than aircleaner and downpipe. I believe the fuel pump is the original maybe that is the week point.
Second issue, used the 40HP DD on the way to work today and it seems to surge, the RPM only varied about 10-15 while in cruise but I could feel it surging slightly which it does not do while on a stock tune.
Kind of in the same boat. So I have a Melling M208 LPOP in the garage and I plan on getting a new HPOP and getting them installed. I have a Cali truck which I believe runs 120cc injectors as stock. 65HP truck can fly! I have been running stock here and there and I feel like I'm driving a 1976 station wagon. To Hit Man's ... going to make sure I have adequate oil. I do have Mark F's efuel so that has been working great 60 PSI always.
So I totally cursed myself after this posting. I went out to run to the store and started my truck in the 65HP setting. Truck ran freaking rough, engine felt like it was going to break loose on a bad idle and died. Switched to stock setting and no go. Have yet to try it this morning.
Cannot recall my cruise digits, sorry. Idle I do around 500psi and about 8% I think now. Foot to floor on tow does about 2800psi and I cannot recall my duty cycle, you would need to check my thread to see if there.
i recently added the PHP Hydra. I have the RiffRaff 6637 intake and a Tymar 3-3.5-4" downpipe with an open 4" exhaust. I noticed a shift up in the idle after the Hydra, and the idle speeds seem to change. I'm running a mechanical fuel pump. in general, the idle is 750 or higher now. Even in the stock tune.

i wonder if that is intended by the engine controller? mine does it as well. i know some electric fan vehicles automatically kick on the fan if you hit the AC.

Yes, the PCM receives a signal from the AC circuit to bump it around 100rpm when the compressor is on. When the compressor cycles off, it drops again. Cycles on, bops up again.
So did a little towing last week a couple short trips with the toy hauler (no toy) 6500 lbs used the 40HP tow tune which is the stock tune from PHP. It made a great improvement as far as power from a dead stop through cruising speed. Now my truck will creap past 65 if I don't watch it. I use to have to actually work to get it up to that speed. The only issue is the trans shifts are a little mushy with this tune. the shift points did not change from the factory tune as far as I could tell.
Then I made a trip to Wisconsin to pick up a truck box for a buddy hauling a empty car trailer one way and added the box on the way back. I used the 65HP tow tune and it was amazing. great power and the shift points were up where I think they should be and nice crisp shifts.
I did get a hair under 15 miles to a gallon averaging 65 MPH. Super happy with this tune its night and day compared to stock.
I have a Jasper rebuilt trans in my truck, found the receipts from the PO, it has about 75,000 miles on it from what I can tell. I think I may call them and see if they can tell me what they do to rebuild these and see if they changed anything in the valve body.
Does anyone have any experience with the 40HP tow tune seems like it should act a little different, do I need to get a custom tune ?
