Hello,
My 2011 F- 250 SD 6.7L is taking a very long time to start. The truck turns over very quickly but will not fire for about 8-10 seconds, the problem is intermittent but seems to be getting more consistent. I have tried different diesel fuel stations, cycling the ignition several times, adding Lucas Injector cleaner, and replaced both fuel filters. Has anyone else had this issue and what could be the possible cause?
Thank you in advance!
When is the last time the fuel filters were changed prior to doing it this time? And did you stick with Motorcraft filters? As Fritz said, air leaks on the frame filter are a big culprit as is not completely tightening that bowl until it hits the stop.
The filters were previously changed when I purchased the truck (~3 yrs) and I replaced them three days ago with Motorcraft filters. Like I stated before, this is intermittent, I can go a week with no issues and then it happens for a week. I tried to figure out what was different (like where I fueled last) but it dosnt seem to follow any pattern. There are no codes present but I haven't checked fuel pressure. Im sure I am overlooking something but Im not positive that it is a fuel issue, could it be electrical? I was asked about the batteries but it cranks over fine but just for a VERY long time prior to starting.
Turn the key on for a second before cranking. This lets the fuel pump pressurize the system before cranking, I know, I know, you should not have to do it but it just seems to work better this way at least for me.
