Question Hard Starting

My 2006 6.0 always started easily. All of a sudden the last week it is taking a lot more cranking to get it started. Anyone else run into this problem? The temps here in Florida are cooling down but I never had this situation before.

My 05 seems to crank forever before starting. I was wondering if there was something wrong with mine aswell, plus when I use remote start it goes through the starting mode at least 4 times before it will turn over and start. I know the cooler weather here in MO has a lot to do with it, but normal starting in the summer , it seemed like it cranked over for a few seconds before kicking in.
Any thoughts ??????? Thanks

Hard Starting

I am going to try some diesel injector cleaner and see if it doesn't help. I have put on a few thousand miles since I last put some in and I may have got some dirty fuel. I hope it is something as simple as that.

FUEL FILTERS! They can never be clean enough for these trucks! try that before you try the cleaner. make sure you do both of them.

Good idea denman81, I change them every 15000 miles but maybe I got a load of dirty fuel and loaded them up. Has anyone found a cheaper source for fuel filter other than the ford dealers?

Every 15000 MILES? I thought I was living on the edge by changing mine every 5000 before I read a post that 10000 miles is the recommended interval.

Also, IH had the filter kit on sale a couple weeks ago for around $27. Made you can bargain a little?? I would suggest the injector cleaner along with the new filters.

Good luck.

My owners manual says to change the fuel filters every 15000 miles so that is what I have been doing. I put in a K&N air filter at about 15000 miles and clean it about every 10000 and it has been working great.

are you sure your not reading the gas manual? the diesel supplement manual I beleave (correct me if im wrong) says 10,000. Thats what i do, especially since it is so critical to the injectors and pump.

Checked the book again. 15000 for both fuel filters in the 2006 6.0 diesel owners manual. is your 2003 a 7.3 or a 6.0?

Low ICP pressure will cause this. Here is a TSB 06-17-6

Wink Hard starting

Had new fuel filters installed this AM, the diesel shop here added a fuel addative of some sort and I notice an improvement already. I told the service writer about the hard starting and they took over from there. Only $92.00 later and it seems the problem is gone. I love it when a plan comes together.

Loved the show when it was on. Almost made me want to buy a mini-14 but went with a AR-15 instead.
