Hey, anyone know how much boost I should be getting from my 08 E450 6.0L? It's running fine, but I happened to check the boost with TorquePro while driving and it's rarely more than 5-6psi. But, that was cruising on the highway pulling a trailer. So, I gave it pedal, downshifted, and got the RPMs up to about 3000, still didn't see anything over 12psi. I know Eseries are down-tuned - is that how Ford does it, by limiting boost? The bus struggles at 17,000lbs GVW when it's rated at 20,000. Can't find a boost spec anywhere. Any diesel vans out there who can tell me what they're getting?
Dang, going down the rabbit hole on this and can't find anything. Lots of references in the diagnostic procedures to low and high boost, but nothing to says what either number is. Lotsa threads in the various forums about low boost, some talk about numbers, but not on the Eseries.
You might try posting this same question in one of the diesel engine sub-forums here on FTE. Alternatively there's a site dealing with E-Series with the 6.0, look for "sportsmobileforums com", remove the spaces.
Thanks, JWA. I'm almost always in the 6.0 forum and started this there. Jack TTT suggested someone here might know.
Kinda a circular search huh? Related to your boost question the F-Series and E-Series shouldn't be too drastically different---I could be wrong as frankly I'm not familiar with anything diesel at all.
The site I recommended deals with these issues quite frequently---the majority of owners there have E-Series and by necessity have become very knowledgeable about the 6.0 and its operation.
