I've got a 95' 5.0 with around 140,000 miles. It was running just fine in the morning and then wouldn't start in the evening. I'm confident my issue is fuel as there is literally zero pressure at the rail. I get a KOEO code 542 (fuel pump secondary circuit failure). The engine will crank but fails to start.
Things I have tried to no success:
replaced fuel filter
checked inertia shutoff
replaced all fuses and relays relating to fuel system
tried starting from both tanks
turning key results in no sound from either tank
sprayed ether into intake and engine would fire (RIP arm hair)
disconnected fuel line behind the fuel filter and turned key---bone dry
So my question is- if I have two fuel pumps (one for each tank), I doubt both would go bad at the same time although would that mean they are on the same circuit? If so can someone point me to the name and location of the grounds? Reading through some other posts is it possible a faulty PCM is at fault? Any other ideas?
Murphy's law says they can. If you get no sound from either pump when you turn the key, then I would suggest checking electrical connections at the pump or the pumps are shot. Either way you have to drop the tanks or pull the bed off.
