I am wondering what thoughts anyone has or info. About the base model f150 lightning. I made a reservation and hoping I can get what I want with the base model and as few options as possible. I believe all f150 lightnings come standard with 230 mile range, all wheel drive, and supercrew cab. Does anyone know if the base model will have seating for six? Will it be the "xl" trim or be under a different name? If it is "xl" I would assume it has most of the same standard features on current xl trucks but I dont know what comes standard on these trucks today. Also since I haven't actually heard it called an xl officially and the price is significantly less than the xlt I wonder if it will be a more stripped down trim level than what you normally see with xl. Any thoughts on that?
Other things I'm hoping are standard are rear parking sensors(maybe front sensors too?), steering wheel audio controls, 12 inch center screen, Bluetooth connection for music and phone., and power locks and windows.
If anyone has knowledge or thoughts about this I'd appreciate any input you may have. I am excited about the possibility of paying near 35k for a truck after the $7500 tax credit and plan to trade in my 2011 f-150. The only options I think I may need are a tow package and maybe tires. Some of the options I am hoping for would be nice but not necessary.
the last concern I have about the base model is availability. Do you think I'll have to wait longer for the stripped-down model or will it be available from the beginning? I believe I am probably high on the list of reservations since I made mine within a couple hours of the truck reveal.
This part is off topic but personally I think the 230 mile range should work great for me and I don't care about charging infrastructure since probably 99 percent of my driving is less than 200 miles round trip from my home. For longer trips we'd be more likely to take our family suv anyways since I have a family of 7. I don't think I will ever use public chargers. For the rare mountain hunting/camping or towing trip where I might need more range I think my 4500 watt generator should be able to give me the added range I need to get home. Personally I don't see any reason for me to choose the gas or hybrid over the lightning for my next truck.
You may need a larger generator for camping trips, if your planning on charging the truck and powering other items at the same time. Keep in mind, in ideal conditions, its upwards of 19 hours to fully charge the battery, using 240v. That seems to be a bit too long in my mind to fully charge this truck.
yeah I'm not really planning on it, but it seems like a potential option for me to add some miles if I just wasn't sure it had the range to make it home. Luckily where I live most places I would camp are within 50 miles or so and my camper is a pop-up jumping jack that tows rather easily so shouldn't deplete the range too much. For longer trips we have the suv that we would normally use anyways. I definitely wouldn't plan to use the generator for fully charging the truck from zero.
It sounds like Ford is intentionally vague about the base trim so they don’t have to say it’s fleet only, that way they can say “as low as 39974” but retail customers will have some hurdles on getting the base trim without some leg work and runarounds
“The entry model starts at $39,974 MSRP (commercial-oriented). More-equipped mid-series (XLT) starts at $52,974 MSRP, ”

Fords XL aka contractor special has always been available to anyone that wanted to buy it. I don't see that changing with this truck.

I hope so. The XL is getting well equipped enough for those of us who learned to drive before smart phones, Its just that the low margin on the pro line may give Ford incentive to limit its availability to the retail customers to nudge them onto the xlt line that’s 13k more.

You have to research where Ford started and how they became so huge. Building a vehicle the regular man could afford, it was his inspiration for the assembly line he invented.
I learned to drive when there were still rotary phones available and usable, no such thing as a cell phone. Internet? Huh? Cable tv? What's dat? Yeah I'm old

Same here. I was talking this over with the boss on the way to lunch. I might drive 1,000 miles a month on a busy month-work is seven miles each way and everything else is basically in between there and home. I can park this at my trailer and plug in outside and be good to go the next morning. He was in the YOLO camp as far as my thought about putting a reservation in now. I may wait a couple years for the kinks to get ironed out and maybe some range upgrades are made to where this becomes a vacation vehicle I can pull said trailer with rather than 3-4 hours before I have to park it for a while. Otherwise, it checks the boxes for the next vehicle.
