I recently purchased an '08 F250 5.4L. This cars has codes P0420, P0430, P0022, P0012, P0305, P0306, P0307 but CEL was never on. Does anyone know if this is how ford make on this truck or previous owner made some mods to turn off CEL
Also, my truck consume so much gas. It's about 10.4 mpg on high way without towing anything. Is this about normal for this truck? I heard there are some programmable chips that can be installed in the truck. Where can this be found?
Check the MIL status. It will tell you if the MIL lamp is supposed to be on. Those codes would definitely set a MIL and my guess is the MIL was defeated to hid these codes. That engine needs a full timing job.
How do I check the MIL status?
I suspected one for two VCT solenoids malfunction based on the symptom of the truck. I fixed some of the misfire issue due to loosen coil connectors. Now it runs normally at start or high speed but sometimes idles rough when coming to stop.
Don't waste your money on "programmable chips" and your fuel mileage on what I'm assuming is a high mileage Super Duty isn't abnormal. Fix your drivability issues (misfires) and you might pick up 0.5 mpg.
