Well my friend said he thinks its moisture getting into the dash and causing it to come on but i think he's wrong iv never heard of anything like that with these trucks, as well as the fact that this truck dont leak..

There are many instances of water getting in the dash of other trucks and cars, so I am sure these years of trucks are not immune.

I doubt water is the problem for my brother, however.

Well as im use to OBDII cars and trucks this is sort of new to me. but if i had to guess at it i'd say it was something with the computer... like in the programming.

Sounds like you are not getting any power to pin #1 of the computer.
That is the only reason for pin #1 is to keep and display codes.

I would guess when it was hit in the front the wire that feeds pin #1 was severed or its pin was pulled out of the computer plug.

I just went through this myself. Turned out my computer was shot and had some leaking capacitors. My engine light would come on and off at random and then with-in a couple months I started having all sorts of problems with it not running properly. I would take the computer out and take a gander at it.

I found out the reason i couldent get any codes was because my jumper wire was snaped inside. So i got a
code 22 MAP/BA sensor out of self test range (truck has new MAP sensor)
code 15 EEC permanent ROM test failed
code 16 IDM signal not revieved

code 15 coudl also be a KAM p1 was interrupter (possible cause is battery has been disconnection) and it sat with no battery for 3 years... if thats the cause how do i get rid of that code?

That would make sence... i mean he said it's been doing this since it was hit

with the old EEC-IV system, you cleared the codes by disconnecting the battery and letting the capacitors in the computers discharge. so leaving it sit with no battery in it would not cause a code.
