I believe the ones I am refering have ears also. The problem is the location of the heater core tubes into the engine compartment. They poke out behinf the A/C accumulator/ Evaporator box area. I for one have a very difficult time getting my meathook hands in there. Hence the "special removal tool". If you have a Haynes Manual, take a look at the Heating- A/C section. Mine has a decent explanation with pictures no less about the connectors and the tool

I know the lines. I have a problem with them too. I don't think that was one of their "better ideas".

As much as I love the vehicle, I want the head of the Engineer who shoe horned that engine bay together. I understand the reason why certain things were done. But next time they should look out for servicability. I would hate to be a mechanic at the dealer who sees these things......

YAY I got heat

!!!

I took the van in and got the core flushed and also replaced the thermostat with a (FACTORY FORD) thermostat and waalaa I have heat almost cooking me out of my van now and the rear heat works too.
