Ok hey guys I got a problem, I drive a 2003 Ford f250Sd XL 5.4l v8 4x4. Lastnight I ran out of gas and over heated, due to being where I was at when it happened I had to fill it with water. I had to fill again this morning otw to work. I dont know why it is o er heating, I just put coolant in bbn it two weeks ago. Any suggestions??

is it leaking water/coolant onto the ground, did you check the oil and see if it is milky?

Sounds like you either have a leak or possibly a blown head gasket, you stated you over heated it, possibly warped head and gasket letting the water / coolant out through the exhaust side.

Pop your oil cap and look for a milky fluid. If that's the case you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the oil.

a milky film on the oil cap could be due to overnight condensate not necessarily a blown head gasket.

Does that happen? I've never seen that before.

Happens when you don't run your engine long enough to get the moisture out of the oil...my trucks have been doing it for years because they sit for months at a time then get used for a home depot run which is only about 6 miles for me, then it sits again...I don't use it like I did when I worked construction everyday.
