I feel your dealer failed to make the repair properly if a new oil filter was not included. You should have a line item for the filter part #BC3Z-6731-B

Here is my ticket for the upper oil pan and water pump.

Put me in the camp that the dealer should have installed a new oil filter as part of the repair, but it could have been missed as a mistake.

The biggest shame is these engines having oil leak problems that the dealers and customers are forced to deal with. Completely unacceptable!

seems odd that one dealer would include it as part of the warranty work and other would not. I would think the parts lists for common jobs like this one would be standardized.

uppet oil pan replacement. Requires a new oil filter and oil. Even replacing a starter requires a new oil filter.

to anyone that disagrees the WSM for ford had it printed in black letters with a white back ground. Remove and discard the oil filter. If it’s not charged out on the invoice Ford can bounce the entire claim.

while the oil filter adapter doesn’t have to have the filter removed to remove the adapter Ford says do it.

those that disagree go become a ford diesel tech.

I would rip that dealer a new ...... and tell them you want 10 free oil changes and tire rotations or your calling ford with pictures and taking a picture of the old filter.

im held to high standards by ford and so should every other technician

look in the WSM and it clearly states on an upper oil pan to remove and discard the filter.

I clean off all oil after I’m done. Brake clean does fade new filters.

It’s definitely my old filter,I crawled under the truck today and it has the scratches on the bottom of the can where I changed oil the last time.

I’m going in tomorrow and talk to them about it.. the biggest problem I have with the whole situation,is if it wasn’t suppose to be changed with the job somebody should have said something, and I would have paid for a new filter

I have done a few engine jobs that required removing the oil pan for some reason, always new oil and a new filter. It just makes sense.

Well Ford says the filter is a maintenance item and therefore not to be replaced unless I had the lifetime service plan.

Well thats just a bad way to go about it. But like you said, If they said something up front, you would have paid for a new filter. If my truck ever goes in for anything like that, I will have that little tid bit of bs in the back of my head. Did they reuse the old oil or give you new oil, thats a maint item too. Just sayin.....

there was 13 quarts of oil on the ticket, but you never know...the guy I talked to was real arrogant,I explained to him what happened and all he could say was what do you want Ford to do about it!

What that guy said to you is a bunch of BS, a dealership is a franchise that's privately owned to do work to Fords specifications just like a McDonalds. After Ford it's the service manager and ultimately the owner that is responsible for customer satisfaction. If you were a fleet owner having one of your trucks serviced there, you know for sure he would have thrown in the filter at the dealers expense.
