Hey y’all, new here to forgive me if this has already been answered a million times over, but I’m picking up a 1973 F250 2 wheeler project and was thinking to myself that at some point I should probably convert this to a 4X4 due to the awesome Canadian Snow I always get. Would something like a body swap be the lesser of 2 evils here? Or should I get a 4x4 frame and just mount it from there? What process would I be looking at? Time isn’t an issue I have more than enough of that on my hands. Thanks In advance, more detail the better!!

I think if I was going to change your truck over to 4WD,
I would get a donor 4WD truck and then put the best parts of the 2 trucks on the 4WD chassis...

Good luck with your project.....
Yeah that’s what I was thinking but I’m not sure what might come in the the form of fabrication and all that, everything on the 2x4 is pretty much mint with the exception of some rust in the floor pans, truck bed and a little bit around the wheel wells, so I’d just be buying a 4x4 chassis for the clearance for the transfer case and all that. I’d be buying the same model year correct? Now I’m not the most experienced in the way of fabricating and welding but like I said time is not an issue and I’d love to learn as well any tips are appreciated. This is also all for a long term project, it’s not something I expect to have done by the summer or anything lol.

Search this forum and 4x4 forums for conversion info. You will not get much support here until you post picks of the truck tore apart. There is a new thread about "How hard is it to covert a 2wd to 4wd" here about every week.

Here is the link to mine.
It can definitely be done. Several different routes you can take. I went the coil sprung route. You may want to go leaf sprung depending on parts availability.
I bought a NP241DHD that I need to put behind the NP435 as soon as I make time.
Quick, fast and easy... get a 1979 F250 4wd running gear (with a good motor and trans/xfer case) AKA complete drive line and do a body swap. You can have a 4wd in a weekend.
