I have a '19 with the BLIS. I'd really like to mod this to include a tone and maybe some brighter LED's in the sail panels but I don't want to upset the computers. Maybe one of the smarter guys here can tell me if I can put an additional load on the mirror BLIS lights for each side without screwing up the computer. I'm thinking one LED and a small pizo. Thoughts?
I'd be confident that you could add a LED to each side without causing issues with the BLIS module. Getting access to the LED drive circuit will likely be a real challenge though.
Did you think the Piezo sounder through? You do realize that BLIS is active all the time and the sounder would constantly operate as you drive around town or on the highway? I wouldn't connect a piezo directly to the LED circuit.
My 19 F150 just had the little dot in the mirror, almost impossible to see if the sun was hitting it. I was contemplating adding a small led to the panel on the inside and tie it into the signal feed at the mirror harness. Never got around to it as the aftermarket tow mirrors I put on it had a much better indicator light on them. Now that I have my 20 F350, it uses the larger indicator light/signal in the mirror and I don't have any problems with it.
The thought of sound would be nice, but I wouldn't want it for every time the light lit up. Would be better if it was tied to activating the turn signal and the BLIS system indicator light.
There are instructions floating around here somewhere. You can tap right into the power mirror harness. Plenty enough power for the LED. You even used a resistor to tone down the brightness.
Try searching for the 2017 “what did you do to your truck today thread”. I think it was in there. Username has “air” in it. I’ll poke around and see if I can find it but it’s an awesome mod that only takes about 30 minutes...
This looks like the ticket, though I think I'll use a smaller LED. After some more research, Ibeb is probably correct, the sound would be annoying after a few minutes. Integration with the signals would be great but that's some wizardry that I don't possess. This was discussed at length on the 150 forum awhile ago but they had no solutions.
