I have a 2017 and when I got home I started checking things out as it's been 3 weeks from when I signed. They have been working on an oil pan gasket leak. Anyway I realized the coolent reservoir was really low. I let it cool down and opened it and I could see dark fluid in the bottom (green maybe) so I topped off with distilled water to the max line. This morning it was down to the min line so I drove to work and it's still on min line. The coolent tank closer to the front looks good with the orange/pink stuff but I was really confused about the dark color in the other one. I made sure it was sure it was coolent reservoir before doing as lid says to mix coolent and water 50/50 so it wasn't brake fluid. So I'm wondering what should be my next move? The orange stuff looks new in the reservoir up front but not sure about the degas bottle and what was in there.
Flush with distilled and go with yellow is what the answer is I'm guessing but I really hope that level doesn't drop again.
It has 83k miles on it and it's been flushed (car fax report) not too long ago.
Sorry for my ramblings but any help is greatly appreciated!
I believe I'd check the coolant & see what level freeze protection you have right now. You may have to add some concentrate to get that right, especially if the coolant had been flushed recently I don't believe I'd be worrying about changing over to the yellow right away.
I ordered some test strips as I had to top it off last night too. From the upper oil pan workup, they had to remove some coolant and top off so someone didn't burp it it seems.
I would run your truck for a while to ensure the oil pan oil leak is fixed and verify your coolant level stabilizes before doing a coolant flush and refill. But I do agree a good coolant flush with distilled water and add Ford Yellow coolant is a good plan since you will know for sure what's in the cooling system.
