Could this be a PCM problem
New engine out of the crate 5.4L 2v put into a 1999 4x4 XLT. (For some reason I knew I did not want this truck, but the price was right) Just about everything is new on this engine.
New stuff that was put on:
MAF, EGR, Air temp, CHT, Water pump, Radiator, New EGR tube, new exhaust manifolds, and complete exhaust system with O2, and CATS.
Let's just say everything dealing with the EGR system has been changed. All new vacuum lines on the engine. Has a new fuel pump in the truck and the fuel rail pressure is correct.
While all of you are thinking about that here lays the problem.
Two scanners are saying this truck will go from a closed loop to an open-loop to a closed-loop fault to an open-loop fault with NO codes or freeze frame information.
The fuel short time will go crazy from a -28 to the next time a +28 or they can hit 32 neg and pos (Why it does not throw a code here I don't know) to now get this plus or minus 3.9 to 5.9. It is running rich at times if you do the smell test now the truck has been smoked tested and no vacuum leaks detected. O2's are switching as they should.
We put out of the box new injectors by that German company those dash 3 type in and the truck would not crank. Put an older set in from the same German company and it cranked up.
So do any of you have any ideas?
This is just plain strange with this truck. Went to it today and it threw a code finally of rich both banks with exhaust gas recirculation flow low. All of the EGR systems are new. This truck passed the smoke test, water test and you name it to test for a vacuum leak as it has all new vacuum lines and fittings.
The funny part was it said the truck was going 26 miles an hour when it happened with a load factor of 59. something and the truck has not moved but just cranked up with a multitude of miss fire cylinders. So I went and placed two more scanners on it and got the same readings. I was worried that my scanners were reading wrong or something and a friend took his and got the same reading off it. (He has one of those snap-on $4,500.00 scanners).
It may be the PCM has taken a vacation. We are checking all of the wires, fuses, and grounds to make sure everything is okay there as well.
