Ordering questions

I have recently placed an order for a 250 lariat value package with 6.2 3.73 gears. I am having second thoughts about value package vs ultimate package so I could get the led headlights. Are they really worth the $3200 more it would cost me? Also my towing needs have gone down since I sold our travel trailer. I tow weekly a dump trailer and enclosed tool trailer. Max 6k in pounds usually and usually towing is 30 miles or less. Do you think 6.2 is good enough or should I consider the 7.3? I hate over analyzing things but I can’t help it. It’s how my brain works. Salesman says I can still make changes right now so what do all think?

That trailer weight is no problem for even half ton trucks, so the 6.2 would work well. I bought, and ordered again, a 7.3 because I wanted the extra power and like the engine design. Its getting the same or better MPG as the 6.2 and works at lower RPMs. I think its the Ford HD gas engine of the future, which is ironic since its an old school push rod! I think the extra $1500 for the 7.3 is money well spent and will add to future sell value.

I just ordered a new truck and wrestled with the Lariat packages as well. The LED lights and adaptive cruise pushed me to the Ultimate. We have a Subaru with adaptive cruise and its great on trips. The LED lights are very expensive to add later and the halogen lights suck bad.

I've spent my life settling and don't want to anymore

ETA: my current F250 with 7.3 and 10 speed combo has been superb. I love it, though some have had issues with the 10 speed tranny. Hopefully they get that resolved. All I can say is that when the tranny works as designed, it and the 7.3 is an incredible combo for power and smoothness.

The 6.2 is more than sufficient for the job. A 150 would easily do that and ride smoother to.
The 7.3 so far appears to be holding up and looks like it will be a good engine but it still does not have the age and mileage the 6.2 has had, it is still a new engine.

I would get the 7.3 just for resale value myself. everyone says it gets the same MPG and you know it's going to be a good engine.

Are you sure the ultimate package has the adaptive cruise ? in the King ranch ultimate package the adaptive is still another option. not saying you're wrong but that seems odd. the LED lights are WAY better but I don't think I'd pay that much if the lights are the only thing you're after.

Maybe what he was saying is that he chose the Lariat Ultimate package so that he could add the Adaptive cruise and LED lights. I know the Lariat Ultimate package is a prerequisite to allow the LED option to be added, maybe it's the same with Adaptive cruise. Niether are included with the Lariat Ultimate package.

As much as I would love the ride of the half ton I usually have decent amount of weight in the bed before I even attach the trailer. I would be over payload quite often. I am after the ultimate package strictly for the headlights not the adaptive cruise. Unfortunately it’s required for them. Wish it was available on lower trims.

One way or another they make you pay to get the LED lights. They only really give two ways to get them on the Lariat trim, one with the Black package, since they are included in that, or the Ultimate package + the LED's. Either way costs a few grand total. To me the Ultimate + the LED's gets you more function/features for the $. The Black is mostly just a different look for the $ with very little in the way of additional features.

I'm not sure if it's already been determined or not, but 2022 they are supposed to have a Black package for the XLT trim. Question is, if the LED lighting will be included like it is on the Lariat.

I just went through a similar thought process on my order for a 2022 F250 Lariat. The only way you can add adaptive cruise control is to first buy the ultimate package. MSRP on the ultimate package is $3495 vs. $710 for the value package, so your adding $2785. Then the adaptive cruise adds another $740 for a total of $3525. I just couldn't justify that because all I really wanted was the adaptive cruise, and the value package had virtually all the goodies I wanted.

Regarding the 7.3L "Godzilla" upgrade, I too might have got by with the 6.2L. But the MSRP upgrade for the 7.3L is only $2045, so that was a no brainer for me. Super Duties are often used for towing heavy travel trailers and fifth wheels, so the resale value issue is real with regards to engines and pulling power. And let's face it, who doesn't want their engine to be nicknamed "Godzilla"???

That's my two cents worth anyway. Let's both hope it starts raining chips in Louisville so we get our trucks in a reasonable amount of time!

If you care about resale value, get the 7.3, and the fuel economy won't be any worse with the big engine because its newer design is more efficient than the old 6.2.

But, a properly optioned f150 would get you plenty of payload and towing capacity, possibly equaling the F250 6.2.
And, the ride, handling and fuel economy would be better.

He must have tool boxes or something because he said he needs the payload.

If you are going to option up the truck I would get the 7.3/10speed for resale. You will probably get it back plus some.

Also check out the King Ranch ($1100 stand alone option) and the Black appearance package as mentioned.

I carry roofing materials regularly and they can get heavy quick. Then put your trailer on and your over payload. Hence why the f150 is out. I am not looking to option up the truck. I could get away with an xlt but I like the idea of sync4 and would love the led lights. I know the 6.2 will do everything I ask of it so it’s hard to spend more on the 7.3. That being said I know the halogen headlights will work just not as nice as led ones.

For what it is worth, the feeble halogen headlights on our XLT have been one of the few things that I’m bummed about. Our 2005 Z4 has HIDs, our 2016 Civic has LEDs, and our 2013 Wrangler has LEDs. Makes the halogen headlights on a 55K vehicle seem pretty paltry considering it is a 2021 model. Anyways, creating a plan to improve them is on our short list.

Yeah the 6.2 will do. Have had a couple.

What is the top of the limit for what you want to spend MSRP?

The way I have it built now the msrp is 61,300 and I really don’t want to go higher than that. With my cpa discount I am looking at 55,663 out the door. This is the lariat ultimate version. The value package is 52,500 out the door. Both of these are figured with 6.2.
