Any advice how to flush the cooling system with rear heat? Take out themostat? Use a chemical? I could use some advice. 2000 e350 5.4 rear heat/AC. Does the chemical cause more problems than it solves?
I've used the Prestone solution with no detrimental effects at all. Naturally you'll drain as much of the existing coolant fill with tap water and run maybe 50 or so miles then drain and refill the system once more. At that point I added double the recommended amount, drove another 50 miles, drained and re-filled the system once more. Drive a few more miles to assure the freshest water fill has and drain that out. (Be sure to safely recover the water containing the cleaning solution---it isn't really environmentally friendly.)
At that point I'd recommend using the pre-mixed coolant because its does not use tap water. You can count on using at least 4 gallons of the 50/50 mix to begin---might have to add a small bit more after driving a day or so.
You do NOT need or really want to remove the thermostat especially if its working.
