I was reading through a post on rusty drip rails. Several commenters cited their builds where the drip rails were eliminated entirely. Even those who restored their drip rails had dug deeply into the roof assembly by drilling out spot welds and so on. Impressive work to say the least.
So this got me to thinking about whether anyone has chopped the top of a dent side cab or pancaked the hood or channelled or sectioned one. That would be interesting to follow. Of course we'd all be more interested in these things if it improves the aesthetics. So what are some of the more radical body mods that you know of? Extra points if that mod has been detailed somewhere that we can access.
There's always Ken Block's hoonitruck, based on a 77 F150. I believe it's chopped and widened, with custom flares. That's about the wildest one that comes to mind
Odd mods...look ma NO dent, tail lights, gas flap, door handles.
And more no dent, no drip rails, gas flap or door handles.
I own a 79 Ford, I want a Raptor.... so 1st I fill the dent.
Burned and put out of its misery.
Seaplane movers...
Yes load the plane wrong (backwards) and get a big dent in the roof....
Yes probably not exactily what you meant this thread to be, but I just had to post these oddities.
Kind of makes you wonder what attracted them to a dent in the first place. I did once see a dent with one piece side glass, looked good but I wonder about structural strength. GM left the drip rails off the 73 pickups and from 74 up? had screwed on drip rails.
Maybe "radical" was too strong a word. How about a tilt-forward hood as described here:
BTW, they do offer a kit for 73-79 F-series (see: here)
Or how about a four-eyed dent like this:
I don't know if it's "radical" but I've been thinking it would be cool to get a couple of hoods, cut the middle out of one and build a cowl induction style hood where the whole center raised section was the raised cowl. All I see available in the aftermarket is skinny cowls. Sadly I don't have metal working skills so by the time I learn there probably won't be any cheap hoods available.
That sea plane thing is a testament to drug use. Normal people don't think like that. Removing the dent looks really good. Maybe try removing the bump, it would look way better.
I kinda like that flip forward hood. I just wish they showed what supported it when it was open. In the video it looks like the pistons rest on top of the grill.
Not sure why modern cars and trucks haven't found a way to eliminate the drag of side view mirrors with cameras but truck mirrors can start looking like Dumbo's ears and are probably responsible for reduced fuel mileage. We have backup mirrors and even an aftermarket product that makes what you are towing invisible in the rear view mirror. OTOH, those big mirrors have a certain macho appeal. They suggest the potential to haul very big things around. Might there be a way to get that functionality without the Dumbo tie-in?
