Hey all, I'm in the market for an excursion (intend to do an overland build). Ideally I was looking for a rust free truck (difficult in Minnesota). I have found a couple. 1 is a 7.3 for 12K (probably accept 9). 2 is a 6.8 v10 for 10K (probably accept 8).
I'm a little apprehensive on the diesel - sounds expensive for fixes. The V10 even if I need a rebuild will probably be only 5-6k for a pretty new(ish) truck.
For me it would be the 7.3 without question. I have two 7.3 excursions with 400k and 432k respectively with pretty much no engine issues. I did have a v10 in a quigley conversion 4x4 van and we couldn't pass a gas station. But that's just me, many love their v10
If they are both clean and minimal rust you really can't go wrong either way. But if you don't really need a diesel or have never had one then I would shy away from it. The regular maintenance items are more expensive but those 7.3 do last for just about ever if you take care of them, but the v10s are pretty reliable also.
