So, there was an "older" method of installing the ribbon cable and the USB cable. Now, there is a better way which retains nearly all of the "holding" power of the black plastic case for the PCM and the connector through the firewall.

This video, at about the 18:00 time stamp provides a decent idea of what I am referring to as the "better" way. This is for a TS6 chip, but the principle is the same, or at the very least very similar. A couple of months ago I helped a friend install a Hydra on his 7.3L and we took the same method and it worked very well. The USB cable is small and can be routed out of the PCM hard case, through the PCM black plastic case and coiled up under the dash. This is the method that most of us use as it allows for quick and easy access to the chip via the free software (Hydra Flash) if/when needed.

Once you get your tunes dialed in though and know which you like and at what positions, you will most likely not plug into the Hydra again via the USB cable. But, you paid for the chip and the cable, so you should at least have it in your possession.

He may or may not have written the tunes himself with the Minotaur software. That is a real thing and several FTE'rs have ventured down that path. So, I am not saying that he did or did not use Minotaur software and write his own tunes for you.

That Kubota is nice! We live in the country in north GA and there is ALWAYS work that needs to be done on the land. It is a great way to live life though and we are grateful for the opportunity to live the way we do.

You have a good weekend as well and just know that you have learned a lot and we are here to help.

I'm glad that I've got this platform now because I was running an older Edge Evolution Programmer that came with the truck when I bought it 3 years ago. It was better than stock but only had 3 settings and it took forever to change the settings of course and that was a world apart from this Hydra Chip, so I'm happy. I'll learn more about it and have another shop that I know handle it from now on.
Thanx again brother. That's what I like about this forum. The best knowledge I've ever found is right here👍💯🇺🇲
i also have similiar truck and i had the older edge tunes. the edge was a total pain in the ***,,,,but i still use it because it has the nice guages, with tranny temp and egt which i watch.
i put in php and works great, i like the change tunes on the fly,, i only use 2 of them, towing and fuel sipper.
php has been very helpful on the phone as well.
Banks has not been very helpful.
you should realy shop around for a good diesel mechanic and just go there from now on. they are surprisingly hard to find. sometimes i think anyone can call themselves a mechanic these days
