After modifying our 53F100's chassis to lower it we now have concerns that the clearance when traversing over speedbumps or other hi spots in our routes will result in bottoming out and scraping the running boards and other under carriage parts like mufflers and battery. The running boards would seem to be about 5 inches lower than the chassis frame rails. We're considering installing a C channel or I beam along the length of the frame rail between the front and rear axle a little lower than the running boards. I don't know what others have done to address this issue... Do any of you others that have lowered your rides have a different solution ?
How far off the ground are your running boards? When I built my first ‘56 with a volare front end we had to work the torsion bars a bit to get it so the edge of my front bumper wouldn’t scrape driveway entrances and such. I learned really quickly to take any obstacle at an angle so I could go one tire at a time. Never had issues with the running boards rubbing.
running boards won't be an issue , probably. My front gravel shield is 8.5" from pavement and had several scrubs... something I found that helped save the paint is a product called Sliplo..., it;s a tough urethane strip that self adheres to the lower gravel shield edge and takes the bruise for your paint... works well for me
