78 F150 odometer issues
Hello Again!
The previous owner said when they rebuilt the engine they turned the odometer to zero. It now reads over 12000, but is not functioning properly. It does increase, but also seems to get stuck and freeze for periods of time. The speedometer seems accurate most of the time, however when on the highway the needle skipped around at times.
Suggestions?

Verify the integrity of the Speedo cable and gears; verify that the cable is lubed in the sheath and us not kinked or binding; verify that the cable is positively seated in the Speedo head. If all of that checks out, but a new speedometer.

Getting new dual exhaust today, so will work on it this weekend. Do you know the length of the speedo cable on the 78 F150? I was looking for a replacement if need be and looks like there are at least two lengths, 95" and 76"
