Fram oil
A long time ago, before it was bought out, BobIsTheOilGuy.com used to do pertinent, real-world testing. Often overlooked by lots of people is the filter flow rate - which is as important as it's filtering ability. I can tell you that the Fram filters were not constructed as well as the Motorcraft filters but they did filter and flow significantly better than a lot of the "boutique" filters people pay a premium price for. K&N and Mobil 1 filters were the worst offenders by far. The problem is the filters themselves constantly change so without continual analysis your opinion is only as good as the last teardown / inspection of your favorite filter brand. If you read recent reviews of Fram filters on that web site you will see they are as good as most OEM filters - including Motorcraft.
After seeing those test results I decided the Motorcraft filters made the most sense for me. However, times change. If you look at a recent (5/2/2021) teardown of a Motorcraft filter vs a WIX filter you can see the WIX filter is superior in construction and filtration. The WIX filter has a wire backed synthetic media, the Motorcraft filter has paper media. I can get it delivered to my door via the online jungle river for $17.12. Which filter are you going to buy for your next oil change? You have been provided the data...

Here out of pure boredom I went and bought the current Fram offering for the 6.7. There has been some obvious changes since Honeywell sold them to Trico. Definitely they are using a two layer media, front layer is a cellulose blend and the rear is a cellulose nylon blend with what appears to be a micro woven media.
I stopped using Fram about 25 years ago and went to Wix for my Non-Ford vehicles and Motorcraft for everything Ford.
I wonder where the Motorcraft is made, now I'm wondering and will need to look at that. I will not be buying Fram from China anytime soon.
I normally use Puralator for my offroad toys.
This thread has convinced me it's time to go cut open some 6.7l filters.

Fram went out of their way to make the single worst filter on the market for decades. It was an engineering marvel. I can’t imagine who would license that name for a jug of oil but I want no part in it.
On my 2006 Diesel I bought online some expensive filters, even a few extra, due to someone on here's recommendations.
Then gave the extras away on CL when I sold the truck.

The pictures show the Wix to be more quality and craftsmanship oriented. My 2 cents.................I don't consider cost when buying tools or maintenance items for my equipment. It's not because I'm rich either. I am a one horse show, so it's easier for me, I do not have a fleet, nor do I want one.
