Consider using the parking-emergency brake after shutting down, to prevent vehicle movement, as thats what its for & the tranny parking pawl sure would appreciate it.
Then have a good look at the tranny shift linkage for wear & proper adjustment so the indicator lines up with your selection.
If your root problem is the vehicle isn't parked level & is moving a little After shifting into Park & loads a binding force on the parking pawl, such that shifting Out of Park is difficult, change your routine.
After stopping, set the parking brake Firmly, take your foot Off the brake pedal so you can determine the vehicle wont move, Then shift into park.
After restarting for the next drive cycle, shift Out of Park before releasing the parking brake, so if the vehicle moves a little because its not level, it wont bind the parking pawl.
A common problem with these is that two #30 Torx bolts in the shift linkage loosen. The first thing that my Ranger showed when this happened was it rolled in park. Climb under the dash and look up the column. See the bracket that attaches the shift cable to the column? There are two #30 Torx bolts that hold that bracket to the column. Tighten them. Even better, add Locktite and then tighten them.
But to your original question, yes, you could. Summit Racing and Jegs have several floor shifters to choose from. One should work in your truck.
Thanks. I will look at those areas for a fix.. Also if its the pawl and not the cable bracket thats loose where is that??I do believe the parking pawl is under where the shift linkage comes out of the tranny correct? Or is that in the column?
I looked at Jegs, Napa, and O'Reilly and typed in my trucks info and it says they don't have a shifter for my application. I emailed Winter that makes great ones for c4 and c6 ford tranny hoping they may have something for Ranger 455r3 and no luck. The bracket for the kick down isn't set for the size.
I bought this truck less than a week ago knowing the gear indicator was off but the price was low enough it was not a deal breaker. The engine is good, exhaust is good, the brakes are good,, and the truckbdoes shift well when driving. I just am trying to fix it.. Then upgrade some things like the shifter and adding some fog lights. And find storage solutions.
A floor shift isn't necessary but I prefer them. It seems to be a stronger system even if it means I lose more space in my tiny regular cab for storage. I live in a hilly area so beefing it up some would be a good thing.

Well there is no kickdown cable. Fix the broken shift tube in the column and you will fix your shifter.
