Had a secondary fuel filter fail and completely hose down the engine compartment of my truck. I replaced the filter. Then I got a garden sprayer and mixed 50/50 ZEP degreaser and water and soaked down everything I could get to in the engine bay and hosed it down really good. Removed the hood liner, doused it and rinsed (may do a couple more times). I got all under the truck all the way to the tailgate. Then I took the truck to the car wash and had it washed and the undercarriage washed as well. Still have a super stroke diesel smell inside the cabin. Is it possible diesel got into the cabin air system? If so, any ideas on how to get it cleaned? Just drove it for 30 min. Smokes a bit but I expect that as the remaining diesel film on some parts has to burn off.
I did that as soon as I got back from being out of town. Helped a bunch. Finally had a really good rainfall. That seems to have helped some too. It's not nearly as bad as it was.
Thanks I did get a call back from my Ford Dealer they heard back from Ford, they will reimburse me for the towing and filter install. I then have an appointment with them May 24th they are going to wash everywhere and said do everything do get rid of the diesel smell I sure hope so will report back.
Will look into alternative fuel filters then as I do not want this to happen ever again.
I did wash some right away but I am old and handicapped little I can do myself.
