Diesel Klean question.

I am going to do the fuel filter Diesel Klean treatment on my newly aquired 94 IDIT. My question is this. Will straight Diesel Klean do any harm? I am installing a new filter so there will be no diesel fuel in it at all, or should I do the procedure with my existing filter then replace it when done?

Thanks for any info,

Mac.

nope, ive never heard of any harm. it works best to fill the filter unplug your cold timeing advance and crank it over just till it fires once and leve it set a few hours. then fire her up and take her for a good little cruse

Just my two cents...which although a diesel rookie I put lots of miles on lots of trucks, gas and now diesel.

you guys know I have put almost any form of combustible fuel in my IDI since I got her

It seems most of the fuel additives, as they do in gasser engines, tend to foul up things when they are used in heavy concentrations...

I haven't tried straight diesel kleen, well maybe 50/50 in the filter with diesel and noticed no difference...I did try PSD's diesel 911 in my filter and it is NOT good for that, even though the instructions say to mix a 50/50 911 with diesel..

when i started truck with 911 in filter it started knocking bad and sounded like a gasser doing the pre-ignition/knocking thing.
Main ingredient in 911 is some kind of alcohol and I think a diesel likes alcohol less than it likes gas!

I have used diesel kleen several times already and it seems to work good...

however, even though I run wvo, etc there is something that coated the GP's tips and whatever that something is it is about the same color, etc as the stuff that I saw coating oxygen-sensors on my gasser trucks.

found out later (on gassers), that too rich a fuel additive will coat the oxygen sensors and destroy them eventually through heat buildup..

my rough opinion that diesel additives probably have the same effect on the GP's when used in a cold engine at a rich mixture...they coat them

it's easy for me to identify the veggie oil when it coats something- and the stuff formed on my GP's is not from wvo but really looks like the stuff found on gasser oxygen sensors when they've been hit with too high a blend of injector-cleaner, etc.

Of course, I could be and sometimes am wrong

Also, I have filled the filter up with ATF and then ran it and it ran great, but it was already warmed up too...

I also found out, through driving, that Kerosene seems to burn hotter than diesel and I would think that would help burn out any scum too?

My truck loves, loves wvo/kero mix, it runs so good and quiet-
when on diesel it shakes and acts crazy, noisy, and it stinks...

The diesel kleen claim to fame of better mpg's does seem true though as there is a difference when I have it in the tank vs just straight wvo/diesel, etc...

The diesel 911 is made to ungel gelled fuel. So when it gels you spin the filter off fill it with diesel 911 spin it back on, dump the rest in the tank and your good to go. It is not intended as a cleaner or for regular fuel system maintenance.

My preference is Stanadyne Performance Formula "the blue bottle".

Been running it over 15yrs now, i treat the fuel at every fill-up, never had any issues.

Never seen that one on a shelf. Where do you get it?

FWIW I throw the PS Diesel Kleen (Silver bottle meant for 100 gallons) into the tanks (1/2 in each) every fill-up since I bought the truck. I swear it runs just a little bit better every day.

Mike
