Excursion coming back? Sorry to be that guy.

Our '02 is getting long in the tooth, especially with Minnesota rust.

I just come across the news today that Ford had re-patented the Excursion brand.

Is there any official/reliable word as to if the Excursion is coming back? I'm currently shopping for a new vehicle, and I just can't find anything comparable to the Ex for tow capacity and people room. After all, I have a 35' camper to pull around. I would certainly wait another year, maybe two, to get a new Ex with the 7.3 Godzilla, and make it a Tremor please

Give me hope or squash the long-held click-bait rumors please!

The EX return rumors have circulated every year since the big wagon ceased production. I wonder what a 2023 (next SD update cycle) Limited Tremor 6.7 EX would have for a sticker price? $120,000?

Yeah, I know. Was hoping the re-up on the Excursion brand patent meant something more other than preventing a competitor coming in and stealing the name on a new SUV.

They made the "Maverick" a small pickup, I doubt they will bring back the king of SUV's proper. Expedition is big enough for many, too big actually. Im thinking it may be a package option on the Bronco.

Big issue with the Expedition is the lack of tow capacity. Plus, IRS isn't proper for towing much of anything, IMHO.

Looking at cabin room, there are options-a-plenty. To combine all that WITH large towing capacity, as we all know, was just so completely awesome with the Excursion.

For a minute I thought about a commercial I saw this weekend regarding the new Duramax Yukon and comparing it to a new diesel X. I was excited to see it's an inline 6 configuration. Until I saw the numbers on it. A puny 277 HP and 460 ft lb of torque. They better have them geared appropriately.

I would love to see an updated X as much as the next person, but with the size of the Expedition and the ecoboost, I just don't see it happening. All the more reason to keep your X rust free, maintained, and insured properly (though that is a bit of contention given the age).

Don’t be surprised if the Excursion reinvents itself as an all electric vehicle in the 2025 timeframe akin to the future Jeep Wagoneer.

Wouldn’t that be a twist of fate!

Wish I could keep it rust free, but that just isn't possible in Minnesota :/

Right now the Ex is at Ford. They don't know what is wrong with it yet, but it goes between no crank and crank no start with all kids of dash cluster weirdness. Apparently they have Ford corporate in on it for diagnostics, nobody can figure out the issue.

I may be shopping for a new truck sooner than I thought...

I think it would flop if they did. All electric and towing just don't get along, I wouldn't buy one. The tow capacity would be the draw for a new Ex over an Expedition.

Can always go snag a 2015 ish F250, and send it to that guy back east, along with your dying Ex, and he will merge them togeather into 1. a 2015 excursion.

The new Wagoneer is a 5.7 Hemi with mild Hybrid. The Grand Wagoneer is a 6.4 Hemi without any hybrid.

Dont expect the batterys would have much range...

I actually have my own little futuristic idea and pipedream. Goes something like this...

Ballinger has a platform for their electric trucks that comes without the body, but with a basic cab, steering, etc all working, and its wheelbase is within an inch of the excursions own wheel base. Its fully functional, batteries the works.

My thought was to grab one, take the excursion body, and transplant it onto the Ballinger platform, removing the balinger cab and putting its controls inside the excursion obviously.

The only modification needed to the ballinger platform would be removing the small cab, and if you want to run decently big wheels and tires, shift the axles about an inch further apart and they match identically to the Excursion. But as is from ballinger, factory diameter tires should fit without issue.

You would need to make mount brackets for the Excursion body to mate up to, that bolted or were welded onto the Ballinger frame, but at that point, its basically done, just reconnect the wires for the lights, windows, etc and put the smaller Ballinger gauge cluster into the dash.

I actually called and talked to them about a lot of the details, the guy i spoke to thought it was an excellent idea as he was an excursion fan as well, and it virtually eliminates the drivetrain, steering, suspension, etc involvement in the swap since your just putting a Hat onto the fully functional Ballinger frame. Basic on our discussion, the Ballinger frame might not even need trimmed to fit under the Excursion body at the front or rear, the dimensions of the model we discussed were really close, if anything an inch or two MAY need to be shaved. One option he mentioned, was rather than mating just the body to the platform, take the Excursions frame, and strip all the axles, steering, suspension, EVERYthing off of it befow the body, and then mate that frame onto the platforms on frame, like a sandwhich, then the Factory Excursion frame remains, which means more strength, you can keep the excursions rear hitch, and you do not have to fabricate anything to hold the front and rear bumpers, mate the frame on top of the ballinger then there is no question the excursion body will drop right onto it and bolt on perfectly. Keeping the Excursion frame would also net you several more inches of height which he attributed would be something sort of similar to a normal excursion having a 6 inch lift. Some of the lift coming from the Ballinger suspension being a little higher, some from the frame on frame setup. So the lift would be done in the process with no extra components.

If i ever got that far, my next ideas, were to put a generator into the engine bay to effectively make the vehicle a Hybrid, able to self recharge on the run. It would have a ton of HP and Torque, as their models have more than any Excursion ever had to a large extent.

Would i want one that was all electric without the generator onboard, nope, gotta have that long range for me, to be even an option.

My little talk with their engineer lasted almost 2 hours going over different parts of it, and we didn't find a single issue that would be difficult to overcome, most of it would be child's play and trivial. The Ballinger platform we talked about was also 4 wheel drive so even that is covered.

Ill take one of these Excursions any day over a Cyber truck, even if the Cybertruck was cheaper because i dont want to drive around in a block of silver cheese that a toddler mutilated with a blunt knife.

Wow, 108k for a Jeep. Im not a Jeep fan by any means and the slab side with that kick up in the rear window is not good, but, the interior looks fantastic.

Been thinking about new vehicles lately....getting tired of old whooped out rusty garbage. My wallet does not agree though.
