So long story short I may have messed up!! I added a flowmaster muffler to the truck and took off the resonators. Sounded good, but the drone while towing has grown to annoy me. So i went online and ordered the small OEM resonator that comes with the truck and installed in in line before the muffler. Well it didn't help much. The drone at the 2000rpm that I had while towing has tamed down but then I hear a slight drone cruising at highway speeds 60-70mph. I am dumb and didn't save my original muffler, so I am thinking of trying to find and OEM one I can bolt on and see if that fixes the problem.
My question is will the OEM muffler help? If so should I get it at the dealership or is there an equivalent aftermarket OEM type muffler they sell?
You had no drone with the OEM muffler. You replaced it with an aftermarket and the drone appeared. I think you already know the answer.
Check Rock Auto and see if they carry Motorcraft mufflers. If not, buy one at the dealer. You might be ok with a standard Wagner muffler but OEM is always best.
They dont call it "the drone of flows" for nothing. get rid of the Flowmaster, the drone will go with it. They flow great, stink at noise controil, but that's why folks stick them on.
Walker muffs are extremely durable. Cant go wrong there.
Donaldson truck mufflers are practically bulletproof. https://www.donaldson.com/content/da...duct-Guide.pdf
Still want some sound? AeroChambers work well, and sound pretty darn spiffy. https://www.holley.com/products/exha...eries_muffler/
Did you install it yourself? If you are going to get it welded in by a shop, they will most likely have OEM style replacements in stock. I had my local shop throw in an OEM style which they recommended. I remember the guy saying it was going to make the exhaust a bit more aggressive but not drone. Turned out perfect. Slightly different note but not noticeable in the cab.
