Muffler ?

As some know from other post, I am trying to get my truck quieter inside the cab.i have a 4" exhaust with a aradyne muffler. It has a deep sound and is heard inside the cab. I can turn muffler around ,it's supposed to help ,but have not tried that yet. Is there another muffler that flows well and is quite. I had a mbrp system for many years and finally changed it to this one which is stainless steel . Can't remember the brand name of the pipe, I ready had the muffler ,it was new and never used, been in my shop for many years still in box.

Go back to OEM. OEM is probably the quietest exhaust.

After I posted this, I thought to myself, just google it. I found doing a short search that I probably have the worst muffler for what I want, and there are a few after market mufflers that seem to be more suited for my needs. MBRP makes a quiet muffler along with some others (Hushmuffler?) that claim to flow good and more quiet than what I have. I will do some more research and maybe some others will be able to help me .

Thanks Stewart, I did see your post, and agree with you that the OEM muffler would be the quietest muffler, but I am not sure how well it will flow. I am looking at a larger turbo and have a chip on my truck, I want to make more power and keep EGT down. OEM is 3-1/2" and I have 4" exhaust. I guess I want the best of both worlds and will have to settle somewhere in the middle.

Well, if you want informed answers and suggestions, you HAVE to include that information. We can't give qualified answers to your questions when you don't fully give us the parameters of what you want for your truck. I would NEVER have suggested an OEM exhaust if I knew you were planning on a larger turbo and already have custom tunes. All you referred to was wanting a quiet cabin.

Chip... Intake air box... Exhaust to 4"... Turbo... Then you will need injectors to get beyond +50HP, maybe +80...

Great combo, want to wake it up? Install lower gears. And with all the other stuff, probably traction bars.

Of course, you could just have done the gears first and kept the quiet factory exhaust. But maybe add the chip for a solid +50.

My tongue is partly in my cheek, and partly serious. I am genuinely curious about you goals for the truck. Towing a 15K 5th wheel up the Rocky Mountains? Around town stoplight stormer? Just a little more power when hauling firewood? Or is the truck a toy to play with?

All are legitimate reasons to modify, but not all modifications will get you where you really want to be. Where do you want to be?

ETA: Oops, I stepped on Stewart. Just said it differently.

I am sorry !I had posted about this in another thread and my mind is still rapped up in that, which made me think everyone knows what I have already done to the truck and where I want to go with it.

Sorry for the lack of info, I had been posting in another thread and thought everyone knew.

Let me start over . I have a DP-tuner with stock,40,60 and 80 econo tunes. Truck stays in the 80 econo most of the time. I pull a toy hauler ,bumper pull. Loaded it is about 10,000 lbs. Truck has 4:10 gears and I like how it pull trailer in the 80 tune ,but I live in the hills and that pushes the EGT up and I have to back off of it. So I want to fix that. Truck has intake and 4" exhaust ,shift kit in tranny, boosted fuel pressure. I take long trips pulling toy hauler and the noise for 10 to 12 hrs a day gets to be to much. So I am wanting to quiet it down, but keep good flow. What I really want is a new truck, but not willing to pay the price. So I am going to make this 18year old truck the best it can be. I have add some sound deadner inside the cab as well, but need to do something different with muffler.

The proper way to fix that is to contact Jody and have him adjust your tunes so they better control EGT's under those conditions.

You don't throw go-faster parts at your truck to make the tune fit your engine better. That's the wrong way to do it.

My truck was a dually until last fall. I took the dual wheels off and put signal rear wheels on. This is much better for my needs.

Thanks for the details. Over time, each of us gets to know the other members and their trucks to differing degrees. It takes a bit more than a month for me. Since you mentioned changing from dually to SRW, I do have some memories of your previous posts. Even then, for future search, it is still good to post some details. Details put the thread in context, making the forum more valuable for future searches and drawing new members like you this year and like me last year.

For your needs, the 4" exhaust does make sense. So an OEM muffler won't fit anymore.

From my reading in the past, the MBRP is about the same volume as stock, perhaps a bit more aggressive. Banks is reported to be quieter, and Magnaflow is better still. Don't know the flow ratings for any of them. Also forget which one is priciest, recall one of them being about $300. The MBRP should be fine for your performance goals if it is quiet enough to live with.

I also see you have gears. They will help as long as the tires are stock size. Going oversize will reverse the benefit. I'm a big fan of gears.

While beyond the request for muffler info, I also suggest getting the tuning right for your current setup before swapping turbos. You may still need a different turbo to get where you want to be and it will require different tuning again for that mod. Dial in your current combo and see how you like it.

Take a look at this muffler, AT4040XL Aeroturbine 4" Resonated muffler, and see if you can find one. It's a glorified glass pack with ceramic baffles and straight thorough flow. I just hung one on my truck and even when towing15K+ have very little to no in cab noise with good flow. The exterior noise is a low subdued tone that doesn't bother anyone. I paid $139 for mine out of Washington state with free shipping but they are out right now.

this is the muffler that I have now. I bought it 10 years or so ago maybe as far back as 2004 when I put a mbrp system on and never changed the muffler, About a month ago I replaced that system as it was getting bad,and I installed aeroturbun which was still in the box. It can be install with the flow in either direction and I chose the less restrictive direction. I have thought about trying to turn it around to see if that helps, but getting back off will not be easy. The clamps are tight and smashed into the pipe.
