I thought I should mention this since I ran into it the other day while changing the rear diff fluid and axle seal on my 97 expy. I removed my spare to give myself more room to work and found my spare tire was flat. I had never bothered to check it. It is a 17' alloy and over many trips to Vt in the winter the road salt had accumulated b/w the wheel and tire oxidizing and breaking the seal. With winter coming to some of you it is a good idea to check it out.
Thanks to all for the tons of useful tips and info over the years.
Our 98 EB had an alloy too.....until someone stole it while the truck was in a parking garage. A $500 insurance claim I believe, for the wheel, tire, and stuff to raise the tire under the truck.
'97 Expys came with a flat, grey, solid steel wheel, no ventilation holes. Strong but ugly. I replaced it with an alloy from a wrecking yard so I could do a 5 wheel rotation for longer milage and better ventilation when towing in the mountains.

Not to mention that it takes a two gorillas and a small boy to lift the dang thing off the ground and mount it onto the vehicle. Thanks for the idea of replacing this "anchor" with a alloy wheel.
