lower ball joint

I am having a devil of a time removing the lower ball joint on my 1997 f250hd. The ball joint press wont fit, no room to hammer. Removed the bolt that holds the upper ball joint in place. Still cant get anything to separate. I have worn two pickle forks out beating on it. What do I do?

4x4 or 2wd? Just hit the part where the the knuckle is stuck with a sledge hammer 99.9% success with that method.
