This morning, 58F i left driveway with 17 mpg showing in trip screen. By time i got to main road form our neighborhood (just over 4 miles of 20 mph) It was down to 15, which is pretty normal fr my expy and so far what i would say is a good start on the 250. i had 517 miles on odo when i pulled out of driveway
got up on two lane state hwy 65 mph speed limit, mpg actually went down pretty fast to 14 and didnt move for the 6 miles to the next turn. once i turned onto the next farm road (70 mph) it climbed up to 15 and then hovered between 15 and 15.8 for the next 18 miles to town. I had one red light in town and then more 70mph for another 8 miles .
mpg stayed at the 15 to 15.8
then after next town i had a stretch of 65 to 70 mph for 22 miles to my destination.
at destination i drove 15 mph for 3-4 miles then back out on hwy at 65 to 70 for 22 miles to next redlight, where the mph climbed back up fast to 17 and then 18 and held steady for return legs of 70 mph and few 65mph slowdowns until my community again.
was watching the DTE above fuel gauge and it was loosing 2 to 3 miles to evey one mile gained on ODO. seemed excessive IMO
my 40 ft ISC cummins powered bus does regen once in a blue moon as the heat generated at highway or loaded speeds is hot enough to keep the dpf clean
so at 517 miles should i have already had a regen ? most of my miles are above 65 mph or higher for 17 to 25 miles plus odd 170 at continued 70 plus
Not sure what the newer trucks have set for regen distance, but the older 2011-2016 was set to regen at 500 miles since the last completed regen as the max distance between regens.

What does your owner's manual say?
i have to re read it, 500 seems awfully short
and a real killer of fuel as in WASTE, i thought i had a fuel leak, the fuel gauge was visibly dropping.
i am used to the cummins, it has only done one commanded regen in 32k miles. all the rest is done through normal exhaust temps being high enough to keep the dpf clean its an 8.3 ltr.
thanks
my guess it has regened already, Mine did just after purchase and then again a bit later but before 500 miles. Lately I am at around 700-800 miles between regens.
Get your screen updated to show the soot % that will help or get a monitor so you can see them.

I think for the 2021's you can enable using forscan. I had mine done (a 2020) at the time of purchase.
screen shot of what it would look like here is what I use to monitor. Idash. Lower left shows the average between regens and I also have the regen status shown on the idash

thats a good idea
i may see if the tech can do it at the oil change or the warrant trip i need next week. my driver running board black chrome cover is not staying put on the rear edge .
You can't really go by the instant MPG. that thing goes up and down depending on how hard you push on the go peddle. There are to many variables. Sure during regen the truck does add fuel to the exhaust but no one knows how much fuel is injected to the system nor do they know how much DEF is used for the same reason. I don't even think it matters in the grand scheme of things because it only happens every 500 miles or so.

Yep. New truck for the OP, so still learning whats normal, whats not, and what to worry/not worry about. When I got my first PSD, it was a 2005 6.0L. That thing ran different depending on the day, and the weather. Used to get me worked up, like something was "not right". Now, unless there is something dripping on the ground, or smoking, I dont worry too much. The only time I carry extra DEF is when towing cross-county, more as a convenience, and that was back in 2011 before more stations had DEF right at the pump. I dont even worry too much about that anymore. Just drive the truck.
The only change for me now, is due to COVID, I've been a work at home IT person. prior to COVID my office was about a 30 minute drive by highway, so regens occurred as needed, and completed. Since COVID, driving a lot less, and shorter distances, I got my very first "Filter overloaded, Drive to Clean" message. Decided it was a nice day to get out on the highway. If we ever get rid of our 5th wheel, I'll also get rid of the diesel, as short trips are really hard on them.
regen interval is not set in stone. That is an old myth. Heavy towing will extend the intervals.
Key here is learn what would be normal for your use.
its been awhile for me to be back in powerstroke so there is learning curve on the the new engine
i appreciate the comments. it was really weird watching fuel gauge drop before my eyes , then settle out on return trip
i had a 92 IDI 7.3, a 2002 7.3, and 06 6.0 then was powerstrokeless since 09 when i sold the 6.0 and bought the bus
passive regeneration imo should be the norm if driven to keep temps up for a good distance, 75 mpg even empty should easily pull 800 f on turbine outlet. i know truck knows the EGTs maybe forscan brains can figure out how we can see it on the dash.
the ISC has spoiled me as its been a monster and no issues. but again its pushing 32k lbs
