Blinkers randomly stop working.

While on a road trip towing my 16' trailer I noticed the trailer lights going on and off randomly and sometimes the trailer blinkers would work, sometimes not. I was following my wife with another truck.. Couldnt find any issuer on the trailer. No issues with the truck lights at that time.. I'm thinking the trailer and truck issues are not related but thought I'd give all the info.

Then the truck blinkers stopped working and I get a crazy buzzing noise behind the dash when I turn them on. Hazards work.

About 400 miles later they started working again.

Where about behind the dash? Could be the relay giving out or possible ground or wiring issue.

I had a similar issue a while back. Turned out to be where the wires plug into the turn signal switch behind the dash. Everything looked okay at first but the wires were loose inside the connector and sliding out the back enough to give intermittent connection.
For some reason the metal clips weren't holding the wires secure in the plastic housing, so even when I reinserted them they could easily be removed. Ended up putting a spot of superglue on the back of each of the clips and then pushing them into place and holding them for a few seconds. No issues since then.

Thanks. I'll give that a look.

Isn't the flasher relay behind the stereo toward the driver side? Maybe your relay is "blinking" out... Although, I am not sure if the 2002 has this since the 2002 has a VSM instead of a GEM like the earlier model trucks.

It seems that if the truck is exhibiting the issue without the trailer attached, the fault is within the truck somewhere. When first reading your original post, I was thinking maybe there was an issue on the trailer causing your truck to behave erratically, but that does not appear to be the case.

I was going to upload some wiring diagrams for you, but I don't feel they will help with this issue.

This video is OK at describing and showing you where the flasher relay is located if you think you want to take that route.

While trying to diagnose the issue on the road I didn't try the blinkers with the trailer disconnected.
By the time we got home the issue had resolved itself with the trailer still hooked up.
I've put a few hundred miles on since with no issues.
I will probably hook the trailer back up and see if the issue returns and go from there.
