I replaced my glowplugs about 6-7 months ago and noticed at that time that the bits that plug them into the harness (I'm blanking on the technical word for it) were literally falling apart in my hands. That being said, the GP's still worked fine for me until just recently when they started only turning on for 2-3 seconds when cold starting instead of the normal 10+.
My question is, is there some way to replace just these connectors/or wires, or do I have to replace the entire GP system? (controller and harness)
if the metal part of the connector is still good, i just put heat shrink tubing over them.
if the metal part is bad, i use a crimp connector and heat shrink tubing.
what brand glow plugs did you put in it? 2-3 seconds is telling me you have 3-4 that are not working.
the only glow plugs to use in these engines are motorcraft-beru ZD9's
I put in 8 zd9's from rock auto, that's why I think the connection isn't great. I'm working on some stuff for university right now, so I'll go out later and see if the metal parts are still good.
