Hey guys, quick question. On a 2004 Ford F-150 5.4 3v V8, the primary resistance reads at 0.7 ohms (when set to 200 ohms) and 6.10 ohms (when set to 20k ohms). Both values are above the 0.55 ohm primary and 5.5 ohm secondary recommended resistances. Is the coil bad?
Got a misfire on startup and then on cylinder 3. The info in my first post is for the coil for that cylinder and this is the plug from it. All the plugs only have 30k miles on them I’m shocked that this one is so dark. These plugs are supposed to last 75-100k miles... should I replace the plugs too?
Replace the coil with a new OEM. They are very hard to test correctly. More importantly because this truck is a 2004 you need to make sure the injectors have been replaced. The black is the sign of a impending injector failure. The injectors will take out the whole engine and its well documented here.
So I should mention. I had some pretty bad injector issues back in December. I replaced all 8 with new oem motocraft injectors. It has been running great since then. I just took the truck on a camping trip last week that was about a 200 mile drive both ways. We got back last night, i parked the truck and Cylinder three freaked out this morning. So as for your injector question, They are brand spanking new, and have been working great. I’m thinking the black is from before i put the current injectors in and I am only noticing it now because I haven’t pulled the plugs since I put them in a year and a half ago. Does that provide any helpful information, if not that i probably wasn’t as thorough as i should have been in December? Haha 😆 Thanks for your reply.
