How often is everyone changing your transmission fluid on the 6R80's? I've heard as low as 30,000 miles just asking because I have 34,000 miles now. What it is everyone's opinion? Thanks
Mine currently has 72,000 on it. I'll drive it another few years and the truck will have over 100,000 when I sell it. It'll have the factory fill trans fluid in it when it arrives in the next owners driveway. My 2012 had just over 100k on it when I traded it with no issues. Unless you're pulling something heavy constantly, I'd worry about something else.
I've got a thread going on another F150 forum about a friends 2016 2.7 that is closing on 450,000 miles and it's never had a trans fluid swap.
There's something to be said for the "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" strategy. Pennzoil owns Jiffy Lube and they love it when people change their oil every 3,000 miles. I've used synthetic Castrol 0-20 Titanium in my Tundra for 30,000 towing miles and I changed it every 10,000 miles. I expect to do the same for my 2018 F-150 Max Tow.
transmissions have fluid/oil in them to lube the MOVING PARTS. Moving parts creates friction. Friction produces heat. Over time, said fluid/oil will break down and will not perform as effectively as it should. SERVICE YOUR TRANSMISSIONS..
couple 100$(if that maybe) here and there and including with that comes peace of mind knowing your doing Maintaining your ride properly and it will love you for it. Orrrrrr don’t replace it (see below) and risk the chance of a couple THOUSAND dollors to replace the poorly maintained very essential part of your investment 🤷♂️ Why risk it. The math is simple. Maintain your vehicles properly guys and they will treat you well in return

Getting ready to swap the trans fluid on my new to me '15 2.7 with trans shudder. I think I'm going to go off the ranch and use blue label Mobil 1 LV HP. It seems to cure the shudder on 8 speed GM's really well, and I was able to temporarily stop my shudder with Shudder Stop additive. M1 is not Mercon certified, but there are enough cross certified LV fluids, I believe it should work ok.

You might be right, you might be wrong with Mobil 1. But you can't go wrong with OEM fluid. These trucks are too damned expensive to experiment with IMHO...
The new fluid is better than it used to be, which leads to the possibility for longer intervals. I did a filter drop and refill at 50k, and just sucked out and replaced another 5qts (added a dipstick) at 60k. But I tow a travel trailer regularly. Condition of fluid and temps (it never seems to get hot) have led to me relaxing from 30k and full fluid exchanges so far.
All that to say 30k is probably early, but certainly won’t hurt if the cost isn’t a big deal to you. 50 or 60k is likely plenty early enough for the average person.
